Meditation is an excellent way to start the day, bringing together body and mind with a focus on concentration, relaxation and mindfulness. It can provide a much-needed boost to both physical and mental health and support overall wellbeing. While meditation can be useful at any time of the day, adding it to a morning routine can be ideal for achieving a positive mindset before a busy day. Morning meditation is a great way to reduce any feelings of stress before embarking on the day’s activities.

Types of Meditation 

There are many different types of meditation, so anyone wishing to try it out can find something suitable. Mindful meditation is extremely popular, as well as spiritual meditation, but for those who aren’t particularly spiritual there are alternative options. Other choices include transcendental, progressive relaxation, mantra or loving-kindness meditation, to name but a few. 

However, incorporating mindfulness into the meditation routine can have untold benefits. Being mindful allows individuals to reduce stress and increase awareness. It helps practitioners to understand and accept both physical and mental pain, and it also helps to strengthen relationships as people learn to focus fully on what others are saying. 

Tips For Bringing Meditation Into a Morning Routine 

The key thing to remember when embarking on a new meditation routine is that it should never feel like a chore that has to be completed. For those starting out, it’s helpful to start small. Setting a short goal of around 5–10 minutes is useful and won’t impact the morning routine too much. However, if mornings aren’t always possible, it’s equally important to be flexible and try some different times of day.  

Finding a suitable area in the house to practise meditation is also key. However, some people may prefer to try meditating in outdoor spaces and connect with nature. With a variety of types of meditation available, it can be helpful to try different forms and discover the ideal fit. 

Some who practise meditation may do so for long periods of time, but it’s still just as useful to practise while carrying out everyday tasks such as showering or drinking a coffee. Individuals should also consider how they feel on any given day and what they are hoping to achieve, helping them to go about their days more mindfully.
